Threat intelligence platforms compared for small security teams

This page compares threat intelligence platforms for small security teams on cost, upkeep and what each one tells you to do.

Third-party details change. Each row is summarised from the vendor or project page. Confirm current details with the vendor. EdgeProtect does not provide a STIX/TAXII feed or an indicator export. If you need to feed a security information and event management (SIEM) tool with indicators, use one of the platforms above.

Decision rule

Which kind of platform do you need? It depends on the question you are asking.

An indicator platform stores and shares indicators. It does not decide what matters to your business.

An indicator platform adds cost and upkeep before the intelligence becomes actionable. Someone has to run the software, choose the sources, remove noise and turn indicators into tasks. For a team of one to ten people, that work usually costs more than the licence.

Choose an indicator platform if you run a SOC with analysts who hunt through logs, you share indicators with partners, or you must keep your own record of every indicator you have seen.

Choose EdgeProtect if your question is "which of these threats affects the software and domains we actually have?" EdgeProtect matches threat reporting and exploitation activity to your own inventory, so you get a ranked list of what to fix instead of a larger pile of indicators.

You still get the raw data for your own investigations. The full library of threat groups, techniques, exploited flaws, indicators and attack telemetry is searchable in the platform and over MCP, so an analyst can dig into a group or a flaw directly rather than only reading the ranked view.

What EdgeProtect provides

What does EdgeProtect give you? Intelligence matched to your estate.

EdgeProtect starts from what you own, then shows which threats apply. See the threat intelligence feature for the full library.

  1. Threat groups for your sector

Tell us which sectors you work in and see the criminal and state-backed groups linked to them, with the techniques they use.

  2. Exploitation activity

See which flaws attackers are using now, and which of them are in software you run.

  3. Attack telemetry

See how widely a flaw is being probed, so you can tell a theoretical risk from an active one.

  4. Matched to your software

Add the products you use and we match published flaws to them, then rank what to fix first.

  5. Matched to your domains

Scan a domain you own to find hosts, open ports, services and the known flaws behind them.

  6. Alerts and reports

Get an alert when something new affects your software, and a PDF report you can forward.

EdgeProtect does not offer a STIX/TAXII feed or an indicator export. It is a way to see which threats apply to you, not a store of indicators.

AI assistants

Can an AI assistant use the same data? Yes, through MCP.

The EdgeProtect MCP server lets an assistant such as Claude query the same threat groups, techniques and exposure data.

The server offers 71 tools (verified 2026-10-28): 43 public intelligence tools, and 28 more that read your own scans, flaws, alerts and domains. The second set needs a key with the mcp:org scope, which is off for new keys.

Ask in plain language, for example which threat groups target your sector, or which of your hosts run software that attackers are exploiting.

FAQ

Questions about threat intelligence platforms.

Something else? Talk to the team

A threat intelligence platform collects indicators and reports about attackers from many sources, stores them, and lets a security team search, enrich and share them. Most platforms feed other tools such as a SIEM. Turning the data into a decision is left to analysts.

Usually not. A platform adds cost and upkeep before the intelligence becomes actionable. A small team gets more from knowing which threats apply to its own software and domains than from storing more indicators.

A feed is a stream of indicators or reports. A platform stores many feeds, removes duplicates, adds context and shares the result with other tools and people.

Yes. Sources such as AlienVault OTX and abuse.ch, with a platform such as MISP or OpenCTI, cover the collection and storage. The cost moves to hosting, patching and analyst time, so count those hours before you decide.

No. It does not offer a STIX/TAXII feed or an indicator export. It shows which threat groups and exploited flaws apply to the software and domains you add, and what to fix first. If you need indicator sharing, use a platform alongside it.
